Please, WHATEVER your concerns are, write your congressmen. Don't let them think that people aren't watching them. Don't let them think that people don't care. Will it do any good, I don't know. But at least you've done your best.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This e-mail is going to Mr. McCain, Mr. Kyl, and Mr. Flake.

I have written to the three of you numerous times, the last time about
impeachment of the president who is selling out our country and the shame
that he brings to this country. I got a reply from one of you, Mr. Flake,
and that was basically that he hasn't done anything to merit impeachment,
sorry, bye. The other two of you, like Bush, apparantly think you're above
having to answer to the people who put you in office.

Bush has been a disgrace to this country from the day he with help
from Jeb, got put in office. He has lied to us and the world regarding the
reasons for the war... he has been responsible for the death of over 2000
good Americans... he and his watchdog Cheney has brought corruption to
American government the likes of which I have never seen, and the results
of that corruption are pulled from our pockets daily.

Americans speak with every poll taken. Foreign countries speak with every
trip he takes. We have lost the respect of the rest of the world that our
forefathers took centuries to develop. And our "representatives" ignore it
all.

As Bush has said, if you support the terrorists, you are a terrorist and
you are our enemy. The same goes for our "representatives". If a
representative supports the corruption and lies, they are corrupt and they
are liars, and they should not be in office.

My circle of influence is not large, but I will do everything in my power
to make sure that next term, we have representatives that listen to us.
The funny thing about a circle of influence is that everyone has one. If I
can influence 50 voters, and they can influence 50 voters, etc., how long
would it take before the three of you were on the outside looking in.

I am an independent voter and could care less about the party of the
people in office. Comment sense, honesty, the will to listen to the
people, and the guts to stand up for what's right are the four traits I
want in anyone representing me. Hopefully next term we can get people with
all four of these traits.

Mr. Flake (and Mr. McCain and Mr. Kyle, if either of you can be bothered
this time) could you tell me what there was about President Clinton's
actions that merited impeachment procedures to begin that was worse than
Bush's actions? I'm not a Clinton supporter necessarily, but I'd like to
try to understand the reasoning in our congress.

Thank you

Sincerely

Dumb and dumber

Bush and Cheney... What a set of braincells.

Bush says we'll stay in the fight till we achieve victory.

What will victory be? How will we know when we've won over there? Will the nutcases with bomb vests wave a white flag and say "yup, you win?" Will the radicals see Bush's vision of a new Iraq and decide he's right and the American way should be Iraq's way?

Maybe they'll all drop Allah and go for Jesus?

Get your head out of your ass, Bush. You're not fighting a win or lose war. The people you're trying to win against are fanatics. How can you reason with someone who is willing to blow themselves into hamburger in the name of Allah? Iraq is a wall, and you're using American troops as your head beating against that wall.

When will we have victory? Tell us your criteria for winning so we have a target to aim for. We'll leave when _______ happens, fill in the blank, or have someone else do it since words definitely aren't your forte.

And Cheney, you are just a disgusting little opportunist that wants to stomp on anyone who disagrees with your little clique. If you weren't VP you'd be a nothing, and in three more years, that's exactly what you will be.

Like the bullies in school, all they know is fight. I thought I'd get a lot of hate comments regarding the last post about how I was a rotten American, and I should leave if I don't like it, and our government is wonderful and blah blah blah. But most of the comments agreed or at least didn't argue a whole lot. It got me thinking about how most of the trouble in the world is generated either by a countries government, or organized religion.

Most people, at least from what I've heard, or read, or experienced want one thing. A good life for themselves and for their families. That's all.

Most people don't mind paying prices that give a company a fair profit. They also abhor a company that takes advantage of them. But governments get a cut of that profit too, so they're in no hurry to stop gouging.

Most people don't mind taxes as long as they can understand where they're going, and understand that it's a worthwhile reason. Most reasons aren't worthwhile. Protect us, feed us if needed, help us when we ask for it and make our everyday living (roads, buildings, law enforcement) a good way of life.

Most people know that their government is crooked, but have no idea how to stop it. I know my congressmen (McCain, Kyle and Flake are as useless as tits on a bull, written to them numerous times and got only one form letter back from Flake, and that was pretty much "deal with it")

Most people don't give a rat's ass about the speckled blue-titted horned owl. Activists do, and they have the money, so sometimes good things go undone so we don't disturb a nest.

Most people are tolerant of other races/religions. Most religions and governments aren't, except for when it makes bad press for them.

Most people are charitable. Some charities aren't and take advantage of disasters to line their own tax-protected pockets.

Unfortunately most people just want to live their lives quietly and peacefully. They don't want power, they'd like to get rich, but it's not an overwhelming passion, living comfortably works for them.

The governments and religions are generally run by the few who want extreme power or extreme wealth. They don't give a damn who gets hurt and who suffers.

These are the ones that bulldoze us, the tell us it's for our "own good".

I wish more of the "most people" ran things

I am sick of America

I am sick of my country. I love what our country started out being, I love what our forefathers meant for our country to be, what it could have still been if not for greed and stupidity.

I hate what it's become.

I hate politicians that wage their own private battles against each other's party, and WE'RE the casualties of that war.

I hate the fact that we've turned into the world's bully.

I hate the companies that have become the leaders of our country with their lobbies, profits from OUR pockets, and their influence on our country.

I hate voters that blindly follow their party no matter what they do.

I hate the conservatives AND the liberals.

I hate the fact that we've stopped having a government by the people and for the people.

I hate the fact that it doesn't matter where we WANT our tax dollars to go, they're going to pork bloated who-gives-a-fuck projects that apparently are filling our so-called representatives pockets.

I hate that our representative aren't representing us anymore.

I hate our president and our vice president. They've been the biggest mistake that we've made in history. Two oil people running the country. Is it no surprise that we're in our second war in 5 years in oil producing countries, and the oil companies are all reporting record profits? Talk about the kids running the candy store.

I hate the war, it's only purpose is to get the people WE support (and who will support us) into office there so Bush can have all the influence he can get in the oilfields there. I support the troops entirely, in fact I'm scared to death for them. Honor the troops, good idea... let them come home... on their own two feet, not in a box... and rejoin their families.

I hate that the so-called reason for said wars is still running free. Remember Osama?

And I hate the fact that there seems to be nothing we can do about it anymore.

Sure you'll say "then leave". Shades of Vietnam... "Love it or leave it"

Sure, that's constructive. That solves the problem. Idiots. How bout "Love it, leave it, or fix it"

I'd rather you tell me how it can be fixed. The people here have the money to fix most anything, if the politicians and businesses keep their greedy sweaty pig-hands out of the pot.

Don't tell me to write my representatives. I have, on at least three occasions, got a form letter out of one of them, once. Apparently McCain, Flake, and Kyl can't be bothered.

Don't tell me to vote, I do that, even though last time the choices were pretty slim, the monkeyman or Lurch.

I love America... I love Americans. I hate, I detest, I loath what the American government has become. I'd love to be proud of America again. That would take cleaning house entirely and getting honest people in office.

Could it happen? It could. Will it? I doubt that. Power is expensive, and honesty doesn't pay as well as greed, lying and selling out the office you're running for before you even have it.

I can wish... I can hope...

Old fart-itus

<sigh> Getting old is a pure bitch. You think about things you never thought of, do things you never thought you'd do. For those of you over 50 like I am I hope you can relate... If not it's worse than I thought, and I might have to slit my wrists... So remember that before you tell me you don't think like this at all.

First thing is, you worry about how much sleep you get. Too much.. too little.... I go to bed around nine and wake up at 3:30. Now you'll say "sure, you stupid ass, go to bed later!". But if I go to bed at say 11, I get up at 4:00, then I need a nap. Sorry bastard I am, I know, but that's the way it is. I used to get up Friday morning, go to class, and finally get to bed sometime Sunday. This is when I was in college and too stupid to know I was stupid.

What you eat is a big deal now too. I still eat the same crap I always did (Hostess cupcakes are miniature black Gods, and Twinkies are phallic idols)... But now I worry about what they're doing to my Buddhist shaped body. But not enough to stop worshiping them. I'll die early, I'm sure, but my twinkie-filled gut will never decompose!

Speaking or guts, bowels are a big thing now too. When you get to this age, crap is like sleep, is there too much? Not enough? Is it too loose, too hard? Shaped wrong? Colored wrong? There's no good guidelines, no pictures of the perfect turd, so it's all speculation. Now I don't go to doctors cause they keep mentioning that they'd like to make a movie star of my intestines, and sorry, they're camera shy.

Then there's the pain that surely is the prelude to death, whether a chest pain(heart attack), stomach pain(appendix), back ache(kidney problems), sore knees (arthritis), or leg pains (clots). They haven't killed me yet, but still, it's always the next one that gets you, right?

When you're young you eat what you want, sleep when you want, shit when you want, ignore pains, and just get drunk, high, or laid.

Old age.... God's ultimate gotcha before the ULTIMATE ultimate gotcha. I'd give him a piece of my mind, but I notice that's going too...

Now it's getting late, gotta take my medicine and get ready for bed....

shit....
</sigh>

flip the name, flip the blame

I hear the righteous Republicans saying "Don't play the blame game! By the way, it was the governor and mayor's faults" and their long spiels about poor slandered Bush. I hear the Democrats jumping and yelling about bush and his mishandling of everything that's happened.

Now the funny thing is... let's imagine Bush hadn't stolen the election in 2000. We have Gore for president. Let's say the exact same things had happened. I know, the liberals will jump up and say "oh, but it wouldn't have!" but let's just say it did.

Right now, the conservatives would be giving long speils about the mishandling of everything that's happened. The liberals would be saying "Don't play the blame game! By the way, it was the governor and mayor's fault"

See, that's the problem. It's not really the issues that everyone argues. It's the party label on the guy in office.

Not a way to fix problems I think.

Now the issue of Halliburton getting contracts and pulling back on the Davis-Bacon act so they don't have to pay the normal wages.... Sorry GOP, your man IS stealing our money, sticking it in his buddies pockets, and thumbing his nose at the workers who won't get a fair wage. If it was Gore, HE would be a crook too. Did your parents vote that way, and you carry on the family tradition? Your area of the country? Not sure of the issues?

I hear people on here and at work that lose sight of the folks that are in office, and justify or condemn soley on the basis of the party the people are affiliated with. No, they won't say that, but it's pretty damn obvious. The best example I can think of is Rush Limbaugh. When Clinton was in office, he could do no good. Bush can do no wrong. Every president has his good and bad points, why can't you admit that instead of justifying/condemning EVERYTHING.

Please, Democrats and Republicans alike. Don't let a party title rule you. Look at the people. Complain and demand explanations when they are warranted. Praise when deserved. Forget the party, vote on the issues and what you think the person can do, will do, won't do. Half of our governments problems are concerned with the constant party line struggle and bandying back and forth for that blue-state/red-state game. Government is a hard job, and time shouldn't be taken away from the issues to play that game.

I don't like Bush, that's obvious. But not because he's Republican, it's because he's a dangerous man to have in office. He would be if he was a Democrat too. Add Cheney to that recipe, and we're walking a tightrope with no shoes and bunions on our feet.

I don't like Ted Kennedy either, He would be a dangerous man as well. But not because he's a democrat, but because like Bush, I think he lacks the basic mindset that makes an honest and effective leader.

Politicians are people first. They have good and bad traits. Honesty and integrity seem to be traits that have always been sorely needed and rare to find, and personally, I think that being a hard-line Democrat or Republican doesn't improve your chances for having them, since it's so hard to be what your party wants you to be, you tend to lose track of what you are. The party owns you. Look for the person that would do the most good, that uses his emotions, logic, desire to truly do what's right. If you find this person, the party doesn't matter.

Political parties are just something firm to hold onto for businesses looking to fill their pockets, and people that can't think for themselves. Please don't let this unfortunate group run the country. God gave you a brain. Exercise it. Don't shut it down and give the keys to the country to a group with a political title and their sleazy buddies that get the payola that comes from your pockets.

damn I hate political blogs, and now I are one

Worser and worser. For five years he's been a self-serving sonofabitch, not caring about the American people, lying to us, giving contracts to people that are on his list of supportees, sending Americans to their deaths in Iraq, leaving people to die in an American city, vacationing a fifth of his term of office, ignoring the wishes of congress and of the American people.

Whether you are left wing, right wing, or in the middle you've got to see that the man is as inept as his head of FEMA was unqualified. His administration talks about democrats playing the "blame game" as it blames the mayor and governor of Louisiana for not responding. I am not saying that they are the brightest bulbs in the lamp, but these people are ultimately Americans, and the American government should be on the ball to take care of it's own. And Bush, God save us, is the ultimate leader of America. As Truman said, "the buck stops here". With our current government, the buck goes to those who supported it at election time, apparently.

Write your congressmen, tell them you're sick of this farce we call an administration, this joke we call a president. But natural disasters do bring out the best in people. Hearts and wallets open and people help other people that they've never met, probably never will. Across America people are doing what they can whether a dollar, a million dollars, a can of food, a blanket. Kids sell lemonade to help the victims is a wonderous virtue that really is more common than one might think.

You don't hear about it often because killing, theft, extortion, and all the other bad things are better news. How many people here help a neighbor when they need it the most? A good portion I wager. But a neighbor mowing an elderly person's lawn isn't news. A person that sponsers a child in a third world country isn't news. People helping someone whose car breaks down isn't news.

The media needs the spectacular, the horrifying, the distastful. Show us pictures of dead bodies, celebrities private lives, the weird, the awful. That's what sells.

Too bad. In a world of good, we should see that overwhelming good. Maybe it would make the awful stuff more bearable. At least it would help balance the scales that are now too loaded on the bad side in the media. I guess we just have to know in our minds and hearts that people are good in spite of the world around them.

What the hell is it with oil

I live near Phoenix as you know. Before the winds stopped blowing in LA, gas prices went up a dime... next day, another 15 cents... Now we're paying more than CA, always a mecca of overpriced.

Now we're at 3.13 avg a gallon, up from 2.65 before the hurricane. It's not that there's a direct pipeline from the gulf to here, we get most of ours from CA and TX.

Across the border in Mexico they're paying 2.16 a gallon.

Now they're saying possibly by the end of the month we'll be "down to 3.00 a gallon". 2 days to raise it 55 cents, a month to get it down 13 cents. Who bets it'll never get down to pre-hurricane prices?

Now I know the Feds won't investigate, that'd be like tattling on your buddies.

Our useless state government is talking about dropping the state tax for a while, which is a quick fix that's basically pay now or pay later. The road revenue goes to hell in a handbasket and it will come out of the general fund, so it's like saving 16 cents here, paying it there.

I wonder how oil stocks are looking right now... Betcha Exxon and the rest aren't dropping profits.

Why can a gas station on one corner sell for 3.05, and the same company charge 3.19 on the next corner? Do distributors charge different stations different prices?

Has anyone looked at the chain between crude/refineries/distributors/stations to see where the biggest jumps happen?

Bush and Co... Not a hell of a lot out of them regarding gas prices... Wonder why.....

He must be tired over this whole disaster thing... It must be exhausting to do so much wrong and so little right... Time for another vacation, he's only had a little over 300 days vacation since he's been in office, and the last one got interrupted.

I've had... lessee... 40 days since Bush II landed in America.

Bush... Don't just impeach him cause he's a bad president, do it cause it would feel soooo good to wipe that monkey-smile off his face.

Our nightmare of a president

God, the longer this hemorrhoid is in office, the more I can't stand the arrogant bastard. As I've said before, I'm neither liberal nor conservative, because party people are just tunnel visioned puppets from all I've seen of the party people I know. But even THEY are finding it hard to praise this twerp. This war he got to start by lying to us all about the famous invisable WMD's is going nowhere from what I can see except for filling coffins with our servicemen and filling pockets of people whose pockets are already fuller than they should be and draining our purses to do it.

Now before you little hawks with the big guns and tiny dicks start bleating about how I'm not standing up for our servicemen, climb off your little podium and listen. I have nothing but respect for our armed forces and the people in it. I realize that they have to do what mini-Bush tells them to, and they're doing a fine job with what they're given to work with. But where are we going? Bush keeps spewing about staying the course, but what the HELL is the course?

I think the jobs going to his head, he seems like he's trying to become emperor Bush. He appoints who he wants, supports bills that are more pork than P-P-Porky ever thought of being, goes around the senate and house to get what he wants. Now he's got his sights set on Iran, I don't think you have to be a psychic to see our next Bush-war coming. The energy bill he signed is useless but his buddies will be getting tax credits out of it, can see THAT coming.

And Clinton almost got thrown out for a blowjob....

What a world

Handyman extraordinaire

Well, I switched the thermostat and it worked. Now excuse me, I'm gonna have a beer, burp, and scratch my balls.

uuuuuurp

Yesterday we went to a Chinese buffet kinda restaurant, where I ate a variety of something, never quite sure in a Chinese buffet. On the way home I burped, a good satisfying methane producing burp. The kind that empties you out enough so that you could eat another helping of the mystery buffet

Well my wife started with the EEEWWWW, that's DISGUSTING kinda stuff. You woulda thought I shit on the truck seat. Sure it had a mixture of the aromas of everything I ate but geeez she didn't die.

Where do women burp and fart?? Don't they ever just sneak up on em and come barreling out? Do they just put up with the pain till they can get to whatever the "proper" place is to let loose.

Since I never seem to catch my wife doing either, I don't know the logistics of woman-gas. To me, the louder the more satisfying. The reason I do either is cause this stuff is in me, it hurts, and by God the quicker it comes out, the happier I am, and I like to share my happiness.

Do Women have these satisfying cheek-rattling farts that I've learned to love? Those burps that seem to come up from the knees and cleanse the system as they rise? Or do they just have lady-poots and tiny 'urps'. Christ, it's not PMS that kills em (and us), it's methane overload!

Let loose, Ladies. let'em rip! We can stand our own stinks, can't imagine yours could be worse! No reason, just a lazyass.

I have to change a thermostat for our air conditioner today. Not a big deal, just take off the old, put on a new electronic whiz kind.

I have whatever is the equivalent of a black thumb in handyman stuff. I don't like it, I'm not good at it, I don't wanna do it. I loved apartments, where the maintenance staff were my best friends.

Now its up to me. I'm not a Home Depot kinda guy. If good around the house = masculinity, I must be gay. I put a light in a ceiling fan once and set the ceiling on fire. I left a pile of gravel in the driveway for a year cause my ex ordered it, had it delivered, and I found out when I pulled in the driveway. I don't like saws, I don't like hammers, I don't even like changing lightbulbs.

So pray for my house.

Food... I don't eat dog or cat or parakeets, but other than that it's all fair game..

But as I sat here and kinda just blanked my mind (Not a hard task for me), I thought about tonight's supper, some kind of Chinese chicken-y (I fervently hope) kind of meal. How ugly is a chicken, and we scarf it down all the time. Even worse, look at a turkey. Blech. Think about the original state of your food and you could toss cookies all over your own lap.

Eggs. Glad I never saw em pop out of wherever they pop out of or I'd be doing cereal for the rest of my life.

Fish. I never liked to fish cause they're an ugly pop-eyed slimy kind of animal. But I had Tuna last night. Without that ugly head and the slimy skin, they taste purty good.

Lobster.. Who was the first guy that decided a lobster would be good eating?!?

Ham / pork. Is it the mud marinade that makes em taste so good?

Milk. Sorry, much as I like a good set of bajongas, I don't want em to be a faucet. Much better not thinking of it coming out of Betsy's underside.

Shrimp... I don't even know what a swimming one looks like, but they taste damn good so I'm not about to look it up.

Beef. The flip side of the spectrum, hate to think of carving up ol Betsy with her big brown eyes, So I DON'T think of it, I just splash on the ol A-1 and chow down.

Veggies and fruits are kinda who cares. no different than grass and weeds only they taste marginally better.

I draw the line at squid, octopus, crawdads, and animal innards like tripe and brains and heart and pigs feet. Also insects, most things without a backbone, and anything else I haven't tried up to this date. I have enough of an assortment to last me the rest of my life, thankyouverymuch.

And booze. I do booze.. Don't care where it comes from it's good stuff. Even them little worms, if I can finish that bottle I'll do the worm, guaranteed.

Haven't gone on a real bender in a long time...hmmm

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://phoenixbob.blogspot.com/2005/04/food-yum.html' title='Food... All the boo-hoos from the oil companies and here we go 10 cents every time you pas a station. It's always amazing to me how fast they go UP and how slow they go DOWN. The gas stations raise the price as soon as there's a rumor of a rise from the distributors, but when the distributor price goes down, the gas stations all of a sudden have a shitload of the high price inventory that they have to use up, so prices have to stay high till that's gone. Don't any of them have a shitload of the CHEAP stuff when prices go up? Guess not cause man, those numbers change every 10 minutes on the signs.

And somehow they never come down as far as they went up.... Never... Even when there's a glut of oil... Hmmmmm

Then there are the stations that shoot it up 20 cents past everyone else, some stations are 2.25, and some fly em up to 2.49, especially when they're on a popular corner.

You could fight back, you could get your message across, if you really wanted to. Yeah, you need gas, but develop a memory. These jerks that are out to screw you because they can will only get rich if you put the money in their hairy little paws. Remember who tried to stick it to you, and take 5 minutes to go somewhere else. And when the price goes down, remember the ones that stuck it to you, and let em choke on their gas. You have the power of the consumer, don't let the thieves profit from your misfortune.

Remember the ones who were fair in the hard times, and let them profit in the good times too. Give em your business now, and give it to em when prices go back down. Reward honesty and punish greed. You can do it, you have the dollar that they all want.

And by the way, if we're gonna pump a gazillion dollars into Iraq, seems like we should be getting their friggin oil at wholesale too. Unless...maybe...American oil companies might be profiting from that oil and sticking it to us once again... Could that happen? Could our government allow it?

Does Frosty have snow balls?

Minuteman project

Here in Arizona we have a problem with illegal aliens (or, as our local trying-to-be-politically correct I guess newspaper calls them, "undocumented immigrants") crossing the border from Mexico. There is a very large problem in Phoenix with stolen cars, with a good proportion of them going back over the border. There's a large problem with crime, fueled by the coyotes (human smugglers) and the percentage of illegals that are criminals, that are truly undesirable in ANY country.

It's the United States border foremost, or at least that's what I'd think, then it's Arizona's border. We were attacked in 2001 by a few people, 20 people, who changed America forever, changed a lot of lives forever and got us in war with two countries.

Our president for some reason is playing footsie with the president of Mexico, so not a lot more has been done to stop the influx as has ever been done by our federal government. The Mexican government waves their arms around whenever we try to stop this stream and whines about the immigrants' rights. They publish pamphlets on the best ways to cross into the country. They call us racist, because we don't want to support the Mexicans who wouldn't have to cross into our country if, possibly, conditions under him and his weren't so intolerable that crossing a desert with a good chance of dying was a better alternative than life in Mexico.

We passed Proposition 200 to try to protect our taxes from being used to support and aid people who shouldn't be here in first place. Our courts, the same courts that starved Terri Schiavo, pulled the teeth from this bill. Our governor did the same. Screw the citizens that voted legally, protect the illegals, businesses that take advantage of them, and special interests by any means possible.

Now we have the Minuteman project - American citizens who want to plug some of the holes at our borders by watching for illegal crossings and telling the border patrol where they are. Citizens doing what our government should be doing if they had any balls at all.

Well this is terrible! This is immoral! This is racist! Bush calls them vigilantes! Fox calls them vigilantes! The ACLU tries to block them at every turn. Fox is going to put his military at the border to watch these bastards and make sure his honorable citizens aren't impaired from crossing, because after all, without these people crossing there would be a drastic reduction of funds going back to Mexico from the illegals trying to send money back to support their families.

Do I blame the aliens? No, the majority are trying to do what we all try to do, get a better life and support their families. Apparently this is something that they can't get in modern day Mexico, so they do what they have to do.

I blame our government, federal and state, for not having the sense to protect our borders. I'll blame Bush and our government if another NY happens because we're trying to kiss ass instead of standing fast for our rights to a safe border. And I blame Mexico's government for making it so bad there that their people have no alternative but to risk death to eke a living. If they have a military, and the government wants to protect their citizens, have the military stop the illegals so they can't get hurt. The Mexican government should dig up a little pride in it's own country and make it a place where people want to stay and where they can live a good life with their families.

Isn't that what makes a country great?

God, I love Gilbert

I've lived a lot of places in my life, and about a year ago we moved to Gilbert, AZ. We lived in Phoenix for about a year and a half before this, and were hesitant to move to Gilbert because it added about 45 min each way commute to work. But when we got settled in, we found that we've moved to the perfect place for us.

We both like reading, and the library is 1/2 block away. We love parks and walking (Not actual HIKING kind of walking just lazy walking). There's a beautiful park with a pond and waterfall about a block away, and a preserve about a block the other way.

We like to putter around stores, and we're just surrounded by shopping centers, none right next to us, but many within a few miles. Again, perfect, we can go when we want , by traveling a convenient distance without having the hassle of living next to one. There are three grocery stores within two blocks from us.

But the thing we like most here are the people. Everyone is friendly, whether neighbors, store clerks, or just strangers. This community has good family values, I suppose from having a large Mormon influence. Good people, good area, low crime, small town feel.

It hit home today again while my wife and I were having lunch. There was a large table full of teens next to us, all quiet and neat, all laughing and talking, but not the raucous loud laughing that we through time have come to associate with 8 or 10 teens eating together, they were just people enjoying each others company.

When the meal came, they all went quiet and bowed their heads for a minute, then went back to talking and eating. What a breath of fresh air! As I've said before, I'm not a religious man, and my wife isn't "denominationally" religious either. We both believe in God in our own ways, the belief having nothing to do with any particular church. But we were both moved by the sight.

We bow to their parents, their clergy, and especially to these fine young people. They seem to carry a confidence and a demeanor that quite a few of us who call ourselves adults can only hope to achieve. Best of luck to them in their future, they have a wonderful base for a wonderful life.

I dunno....

I have some questions that may be stupid, and may seem obvious to some. Please answer if you can...

Why are politicians and charities exempt from the do-not-call lists?

Why are churches exempt from taxes?

Why do people hate Bill Gates? Man, what a trip that is. I'm not an artsy-fartsy type, so I don't really care about the actual "art" (and that SHOULD be in quotes, cause it's a real stretch at some booths).

So I don't buy anything there. If they had a 3 for $5 sale, I probably wouldn't buy anything there. As I said, I'm a who-cares art critic, and rightfully so cause I have no taste, and little interest. What I like about it is the people there. I'm a people watcher, and there are some hilarious ones at places like this.

First off, there are the artists , title given by themselves. Why do artists think that they have to look like a piece of art themselves, does eccentricity make you a better artist? Man, some of the outfits they wear are eye-burners. But it does make it easy to pick out the artists from the rest of the crowd, normal people sure wouldn't wear some of these things... The hats, Gawd the HATS. I dunno.....

Then there are the artsy-fartsy patrons, either richer than God himself, or wannabe artists, they too have a "special" way of dressing. Color combinations that would never be found in nature. Again, hats that block out the sun on a whole street. Parasols made of lace ? Too much leg showing, too much hangy boob showing, just too much.

Now to get this straight, I was there in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt. My legs' color is faintly reminiscent of what you see when you open a package of Pillsbury dough, pasty and white. I fill a t-shirt quite amply especially at waist level. I still have my hair, but color-wise it's starting to match my legs. In other words, who the hell am I to be criticizing?

I do it cause I can. They can too. It's America, I don't walk up to people and say they look like Olive Oyl, they don't know what I think, I don't know what they think. It's a pastime. It's people watching at its finest.

What did we do before....

There are a lot of things we take for granted, computers are one of them of course, I got my first one in '77', 4k memory, cassette drive, low res b&w graphics. Tandy Model I. It was the greatest thing since masturbation!

When you think about all the things we use day to day that we didn't when we were kids (I'm speaking from an old fart point of view, some of you never HAVE lived without these things... Snot nose little .... Never mind....

Here's my list

Remote control. Hell I used to BE my parent's remote control... BOB! Put on channel 3... BOB! Put Carol Burnette on... Kids get the crappy jobs.

Microwaves... I remember tea kettles to heat water for a crummy cup of instant coffee, which in itself was like drinking heated piss... And I remember Jiffy Pop popcorn, shake it like hell on the stove and watch the aluminum foil turn into a giant ball of flavor.

calculators,,, I used a slide rule... once... stupidest thing you ever saw, and I never did get a right answer out of it.

Cable TV... I remember TV before cable... before DVD... before VCR's... I remember getting 4 stations, one had CBS, one had NBC, ABC always only sort of came in, not quite, and of course PBS, THAT came in crystal clear. And you know what? There was always SOMETHING watchable on. Now I get 300 channels of pure dreck. Progress......

Contacts... I don't use em, to me it feels like having a glass full of sand on your eyeballs, but to some people, those-that-used-to-be-called-four-eyes-in-school for example they're lifesavers. I had so many things that I was picked on for in school, that one more or less wouldnt make a turd-in-a-septic tank amount of difference, so I lived with glasses.

Ice makers/water dispensers in fridges... I just got my FIRST fridge with this in it last year, and it is definitely a holy crap, how did I LIVE without this kinda thing! Simple things, simple minds, what can I say

OK too much thinking, cant use many brain cells, they're going away faster than I care to admit. If I lose a few million more, I too can be president!

Leave me some of yours in comments, would enjoy seeing what you young'uns have now that you didn't have long ago

Thoughts on religion on Easter

I'm not a religious person. I believe that organized religion is just another business. I believe that organized religions jockey for position like business. I believe that organized religion has it's own bottom line, and it has nothing to do with a religious bottom line, it's the same bottom line as any business would have, the dollar. I believe that God is wishing he could reneg on his promise to not wipe us all out again and start over at times, because we (as a race) can't even listen to ten commandments without screwing them up.

I believe in God. I can't see how all the beauty in the world is a crapshoot of evolution. I believe that the human body, or any life is too good a machine to be a DNA shuffle. I believe that churches are a waste, we have the greatest of cathedrals in places like the Grand Canyon, a seashore, under an oak tree, next to a brook, on a mountaintop.

I believe that people have a direct line to God, He doesn't need a middle-man or a translator, and that you can talk to God whenever you want, without the benefit of a priest, rabbi, minister, or any other human. Certainly stained glass and great spires aren't needed to get his attention.

I certainly don't understand what He does at times. I don't understand pain, suffering, bad people getting away with bad things. I don't understand Tsunamis, tornados, hurricanes. Good people should get good things, bad people shouldn't.

I hope He and I are on good terms. I don't think I'm a wonderful person, I'm a bit of an ass at times, but I try not to hurt people. I think that's all you can do, try not to hurt, and when you can, try to help.

Let's spend this Easter doing this, say hi to God, thank him for all the good stuff and good people around us, don't hurt anyone, and try to make someone's day a little better cause you're around.

I

Terri Schiavo revisited.

OK, the tubes been out for over a week, she's dying a death I surely never want to die.

I hope her husband's getting some enjoyment out of it. I hope that number one, they do a full investigation after all is done, and find out why he was being so adamant, and two, that he never profits in any way from this. I can see the book publishers drooling now, and probably jockeying for position for his memoirs.

I also hope someone investigates why you have a husband on one side, parents on the other, no living will, and all the courts decided that it was OK to execute her on Michael's say so. It's a damn scary situation, yet another example of the courts overstepping their bounds.

Then there are the politicians who are jumping through hoops to get on the Terri bandwagon and get publicity, along with the media who turned this situation into a circus. Everywhere you go there are special reports, commentary, interviews. God they get so excited, it's a deja-vu of the war coverage. The media reminds me of cockroaches jumping out at crumbs of food, they do now, and always have disgusted me.

The bottom line is, the woman is dying, the courts and her husband are her executioners, and none of them have the balls to at least make it a quick death. I hope they all sleep well... I couldn't.

Medical question

Where is the exact spot in the digestive system where it is determined if a bubble of gas will be a burp or a fart?

I have one that seems trapped in that twilight zone.

Let's start all over....

America... A wonderful country. A concept that can't be beat. Our founding fathers had far-reaching ideas based on freedom, representation, democracy. Checks and balances, Judicial, executive, legislative.

Where have they gone astray? We pay taxes to run our country. Where do they go? Are they going where we want them to go? Do we even know where they go? Who decides? Where is our representation? Who do they represent? Business? Special interest groups? Where are common citizens on the pecking order?

I pay for a war that was started based on falsehoods and misconceptions that has killed 1500 good Americans, while corporations profit. Who represents the families and the thousands of maimed soldiers that do come home? Who will stop the flow of billions of dollars into Iraq? What country will be the next Iraq?

I grew up with a war that went on for years, killing countless Americans, then was abandoned. Who was held accountable?

We have poverty, too much poverty, starvation, homelessness, sickness all in the wealthiest country in the world. Who represents them?

We have crime, and millions of lawyers, prosecutors, judges all to ready to cut a deal and get them on the streets to commit crime again. Who represents the victims and people who just want to live their lives safely and in peace?

We have CEO's robbing us blind as they get richer by the day while stockholders and employees suffer. Companies and executives get slapped wrists, sometimes minimal jail time in country club prisons.

We have social security where the security has been eaten away through the years by being a pot that gets dipped into entirely too much. Now it dawns on everyone that there are problems.

We have millions of illegal aliens crossing our borders, in a time where national security should be of the utmost importance. Plenty of people represent them, it seems. The majority of these people are good, hard working people who if they had entered the country legally would be an asset. Unfortunately they came across the border illegally, and are now the pawns that are cheated and taken advantage of by companies. Business looks for their piece of the cheap labor pie. Government uses it to wheel and deal with Mexico. Meanwhile the border state citizens have to double lock their cars and homes because of the increased crime associated with illegal aliens. Who represents us?

Taxation without representation was a rallying cry at the birth of this country in 1776. Now in 2005, taxation is high for the common man and representation is minimal at best for the common man. Maybe we should take a hard look at the progress that has happened in 2 1/4 centuries. Perhaps we should take a hard look at our constitution, and look at what they meant our country to be instead of what our politicians and judges have tried to twist it into meaning. It's not a liberal or conservative thing. Its just trying to get government back on the track that our founding fathers laid so well.

Terri Schiavo

Right to life. Everyone has it. Sometimes you give up this right when you kill someone. In my opinion, justifiably so. You know the rules. You break the rules... you pay the price.

Terri Schiavo hurt nobody. She had an illness. They say she's brain dead. I don't agree. They say brain dead, then they say she has the mental capacity of someone less than a year old. Aren't these different things? If a baby doesn't develop mentally, can we just wipe them out if they don't go past a years development? What's the limit of brain damage that can happen for the courts (or your family) to wipe you out?

It's an entirely different story if there's a signed, witnessed living will from HER saying yes, let me die if I get this way. Everyone has that right in my opinion, and it should ALWAYS be your right to determine what standard of living should be sustained artificially.

Never should anyone else, ANYONE else, spouse, parents, children be able to decide that fate. If the husband doesn't want the burden, I can understand it in a way. Then leave. Petition for divorce. Run. The right thing? Maybe not, I'm not in that position. I can't imagine it... I don't want to, I couldn't say "oh well, she's not the same, I'm gone", but I could understand it in ways. I haven't followed as closely as I might, I don't know if there's a conflict of interest, does he profit if she dies? Is there another woman? If so, why are the courts even LISTENING to him.

But to go by hearsay, "well she said...". Maybe she did... Maybe not, we'll never know I guess. Maybe she'll end up being a "burden to society". OK, I'll pick up my share of that, hell, we're all paying for thousands and thousands of pieces of crap in jail for life, I'd much rather have my tax dollars pick up Terri's tab.

Then there's the courts. If I get cancer and try to kill myself, I'm a criminal. But they can condemn her and that's fine. If there was that piece of paper FROM HER, then the courts should have had to enforce the pulling of the feeding tubes. Without that, the courts should go sentence a criminal, that would be a novel and welcome change.

Bottom line is this is a person. She should have the same right to live that any other person in this country has. I don't know if she would want to live, but let's not play God.

My wife, knitting. You only have so many notes, yet look at what you can do with em, just by changing the speed and spacing of those notes. So many variations around, yet most of em deal with finding true love (most women's songs) or getting a little (most mens songs). Doesn't matter what genre you look at, the basic themes the same.

(o.s. is opposite sex from here on)

Country is finding then losing the o.s, but still having the trusty dog and truck

Rap is looking for the o.s. with a gun and chains

Blues is singing about why you can't find the o.s. and how life sucks because of it.

Female singers from todays genre just involves showing why they're the best of their sex and showing their cute little bellybuttons. Being said old fart, it's a helluva long time ago since I was a kid. I see what kids have today, and don't know whether to be excited for them, jealous of what they have, or sad that they don't live in a simple time.

I was a kid in the 50's-60's. If I had to pick some of my getting-rarer-by-the-day memories that I can smile and sigh about, these are some that come to mind...

Watching ants. I used to love watching ants, all kindsa hurry and nothing that I could see getting done. But damn, they were good at whatever they were doing!

Gutters. I used to love playing Cap't of my stick ship. Used to sail sticks in the gutters of the street. Used to make dams, put little sticks in the new kid-made lake, then knock the dam down and watch the regatta race of dead tree-parts. Ended up watching the disaster of ships sailing down the drain. Felt sorta like God watching the world deal with the floods. Bonus was to put ants on the sticks. Sadistic little bastard, I was...

Swings. Nothing better than a swing on a warm summer day. Sit on it, lay on it, straddle it, stand on it... Always ended up falling from it, or getting my fingers stuck in the damn chains and taking off 2-3 layers of skin. Sadistic and clumsy. The ants got their revenge. Still clumsy, now only sadistic to weeds, love poisoning weeds. Don't care about ants, but will occasionally step on one for the helluvit. PETA, tough sh*t.

Dogs. I always had dogs, every kid should. A dog is a kid's confidant, friend, partner in crime, protector. Your dog doesn't care if you're a cruddy person, pissed, sad, guilty, dumb, a nerd... To a dog, you're a god. Every kid needs to be a god to someone, cause they sure usually have enough people crapping on them.

TV. We had shows like Roy Rogers, Lassie, Capt Kangaroo, Howdy Doody, Ranger Andy, and GOOD cartoons, violent-but-nobody-got-hurt cartoons. Tom &Jerry, Quick Draw McGraw, Underdog, Casper, Wendy, Spooky... All shows with no teaching, though some thought they did... Just brain-dead lay in front of the TV entertainment. Good stuff.

And food... Food made to taste good, not be healthy. My mother was definitely not a homemaker or a cook... But she made damned fine dinners, cause she cooked to make us happy, not make us healthy. We had meatloaf, lots of mashed potatoes, gravy slopped over everything, lots of bread. We had pork chops (God, that woman could make the best pork have the consistency of tree bark). But we ate it and liked it. Cookies, ice cream, cake, pie. (yeah, I was a chunky little SOB, but food was good)(Flashback, when I was a kid, I wore "husky" pants, in other words fat-ass pants. Hated the word husky... but you gotta pay to play)

Simple stuff? Yup. But that's what makes memories... The simple, warm, never-want-it-to-end kinda stuff. Not things, things are fun, they break, then are forgotten.... Stuff.

A technological wonder

We have a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) that we have from Cox Digital TV. If you don't have one, you don't know what you're missing. You can record anything, set it up to record the same show any time it comes on, no rewinding, erase is just a push of the button, you can record 40 hours worth of stuff. When we got it, I felt like the world of entertainment (such as it is on TV) was in my pocket!

Know what's on it?

Ellen Degeneras and Oprah. Much analysis has gone into this, and a few beers, too.

Ready?

OK. It's a few-step program.

1) My mamma always told me that when you pay off a bill, keep paying, only don't pay who you were paying, pay yourself. You don't miss it cause it's been going out for so long already.
So when Bush finally gets his rocks off and decides to get out of Iraq, take the money we were spending on it and throw it into Social Security. Bush has no problems getting 40 billion at a shot for his armed testosterone injection, so keep getting 40 billion couple times a year, and instead of sending it into some other country, drop it right into the SS coffers.
Where will it come from? Well, easy. Get it from wherever Bush and his cronies are finding it for the war, seems to be a neverending supply there!

2) Buy a crapload of pitbulls. Feed em a few congressmen then some ice cream or something to get the taste out of their mouths so they learn to eat em. Put em around the SS money and tell Congress that if they try to touch that money for their little special interests or payoffs, they'll become dog sushi.

then sit back and watch the money accumulate.

Greenspan, watch out, I'm a-comin to take yer job!

3 3/4 years left. Without insurance we would be paying 80 dollars for 5 of em. Each of em have 25MG of the actual drug in it. By my math, which might be flawed, but it's all I have, this comes to 18,000 dollars an ounce.

Now the drug company's whine about how they have a lot of research costs. Granted. As in any company, these are the costs of doing business. But come on, there's recouping development costs, then there's robbery. Plus they have to put up with our FDA. Another wonderful government agency. In theory, a good one, too. Would be, if they weren't a government agency, cause as usual, that turns a good idea bad.

Now go to any Canadian pharmacy site, and compare the prices. Same drugs, same companies, sometimes 90 percent cheaper.

Why?

Who here in the US is pocketing the difference, at our expense? How can these drugs sell for so much less over there? Why is there such a hubbub over getting them across the border? They say it's "for our safety". Last I knew Canada was a civilized country. Bet they check this stuff out too. Are we saying Canadians are stupid? Or are our drug companies sending them inferior pills?

We can't regulate them. There's a real downside, eh?

Same damn drug, people! Same damn companies, people! 50-90 percent less, people! But our government says we cant buy em over there... "For our protection"...

Bullcrap.

Drug companies want the big profit. Government wants em to have the big profit so they can put some of that big profit in the big government cesspool that they draw on for their own pet projects. Politicians want em to have the big profit so they can make the big contributions to the politicians.

And as usual, we're on the receiving end of the government enema (that's a type of enema where they fill us with a bunch of shit, and we can crap dollars out into their hands)

God save us from our "justice-givers"

Well, the courts are at it again. The supreme court has decided that if someone is a minor when they commit a crime they can't be given the death penalty.

Yet another example of criminals-1, victims-screw you.

We have four here in Az that are affected because they were on death row.

One was 17 when he robbed a store and shot three people execution style.

Another 17 yr old saw a truck he liked, so he waited for the driver at her home. He bound and gagged her, then strangled her and threw her on the desert, then wrote checks in her name for several days.

A 16 yr old hijacked a car, brought her to the desert and shot her in the chest.

A 16 yr old shot a truckful of teens. He killed one and wounded two.

Upstanding citizens, all. I'm sure that in the one to two years it would take to become "adults", they all would have matured and became Phoenix's finest people. You go, Supreme Court.

Never mind the people who died, their families, the people they might have influenced. Never mind them, they're only victims, and we know victims don't count, dead people have no constitution. These fine people sitting on the bench in the Supreme Court have compassion for these children, these wee undeveloped minds.

Anyone that kills are animals. The ones that mean to kill, plan to kill, kills with no remorse, takes another human being from their life is much like a pit bull that kills a human. The fate should be the same for all animals that kill. Intent should be the factor, not age.

Now we'll see what kind of floodgates our high court has opened.

Maybe it's the siesta influence?

I originally come from the northeast, a very uptight area of the US. You work hard (well, I didn't but that's just me) and try to drum up business. You take care of your customers. You try to keep your customers.

Then I moved to Phoenix, and wow, what a culture shock. Everybody is more laid back, less tense, a bad day at work here is like a good day there. A rush job is "when you get a chance." Wow! I can live with this. And I can, from the I'm-at-work side.

But then YOU become the customer. And it sucks!

We've been trying to get landscapers to look at our yard to have some improvements done. My wife is the check-em-out, check-the-Better Business Bureau, check-their-license type. Find the best one type. And this is a good thing. Except the really good ones can't be bothered, they have plenty of work, and apparently coming out to give an estimate isn't worth their Time. Four times we sat here waiting for one to come out and take a look, and either they just didn't show, or called and said "sorry, we're across town."

My wife has a wicked herniated disk, and she had an MRI done last week. Didn't hear a thing about the final results. Called her doctor yesterday, they were gonna check and call back. Nothing. Called em today, her Dr's nurse will call back, Finally called her back and said they'd get a referral for her to see a back doctor surgeon type. Nothing. I hope these people get the same damn thing and have to wait a week in pain to find out what the damn MRI says so they can have it taken care of. Hope they're understanding about being on hold and waiting for "The doctor's nurse"(Say it like she's a god, now) to do her damned job.

OK, tense is bad, easy-going is good, but still, remember without the customer, you ain't got a job. You get the golden opportunity to get Arizona's whopping $240 a week (at best) unemployment insurance. Enjoy it. I've seen a lot develop on the net. Sure, you have to pay for the access, but the guts of the net, the web, telnet, ftp, the whole shmear... Free!

Also, look at the freeware software out there. I use AVG for viruses, Sygate for my firewall, Firefox for my browser, Spybot to get rid of the crap that scum try to track you with, God knows there's plenty more that I can't remember.. Such a deal.

Television... network stations, all free. Commercials, sure, but they aren't bad, and some are damn good.

Radio... All the music you want at the turn of a dial. Again commercials, but I can deal.

Parks... We have some beautiful parks here in Az. No admission. Free. What a price for the relaxation you can get, and the fun you can have.

And finally, free speech, the stuff we use with these blogs. Not a worldwide thing, but here in the US of A we have it. Some people would love to take it away, lots of narrow minded jerks want to squash it, , but we got it, and screw em if they don't like it.They also have the freedom not to listen, read, hear what they don't want to.

Now if Hostess Cupcakes were free, life would be perfect.

ZZZzzz

Listening to 'soundscapes' on Cox Cable (A Muzak-y kind of instrumental, soft music station)

Like a hammock for the brain............

This from someone who's big on Country Music

(Yeah, country! Quiet neighborhood, nice people, wonderful area.

Except for the scooters...

The razor scooters were a nice idea when they came out. Sorta retro, I remember scooters, or at least pictures of the old time scooters... Skateboards with handles, good.

Then some ass came up with "let's put an engine on it". Probably didn't have kids. Probably lived on the desert, no neighbors within miles..

Now here, there are more freakin kids on scooters, minibikes, even kids gas cars than there are adults in real cars. And they all sound like lawnmowers on steroids. And the kids ride em up the street, down the street, up the street, down the street,up the street, down... you get the picture. They do this for hours and hours...

morning

noon

night

Now I'm not a big kid fanatic, been there, done that, they grew, now putting up with other people's kids aren't high on my agenda. But I can put up with em, I even can like the few that don't actually act like kids. But I don't need to listen to the product of their parent's overindulgence, all hours of the day. Take em to the park, take em to a trail, let em rev under their windows... But no, the parents get em these things and tell em to go play... somewhere else.

In Phoenix they banned em cause they were unsafe. Great move... Hope Gilbert gets just as smart. Since the kids don't think traffic laws apply to them, and whiz through stopsigns and such, it won't be long before one of em ends up at the end of a skid mark, and in the hospital, or worse.

And then the self righteous parents will be there, throwing blame on the driver, the streets, the manufacturer, the city, everyone but themselves and their kids.

Sad things, overindulgent parents... a world of their own, and we all just occupy it.

Damn fine thing

Cops and Firefighters. I don't get why people take these jobs. Here in Phoenix, cops are being shot at all the time. People complain about those brute cops that use tasers and such, how dare they. Firefighters, I don't hear about them getting shot at, but they have burning buildings waiting to fall on em.

Come on people, support these guys. Are there bad cops and firefighters? Sure there are... like there are bad accountants and store clerks and doctors and lawyers. Can a bad cop do more damage? uh huh. And when found out they need to be pulled like a bad tooth,

But damn, these people go places where I sure as hell don't ever want to be, and do things I sure as hell don't want to do. I don't want to be walking into a robbery not knowing if someone's got their sights on my ass. I don't want to be near a fire any bigger than my oven. These people do it, and considering the assholes that try to get in their way with moans and groans about excess force (You jerks stand there with a crackhead or coyote trying to go after your butts and see if a taser feels like a good option, bet it would) and judges, those walking anuses that throw em back on the street as soon as the cops bring em in, the cops do a fine job.

Complain about how long it takes emergency people to get to you then vote against spending more on these people, that'll work.

I'll kick in taxes to pay these people more. North American Free Trade Agreement. Good idea while it's a two way street. But when a country publishes how to break America's laws, why are our polititians such goddamn wimps??

I'm talking about Mexico. Living in Arizona has been a real eye opener on illegal immigration (or "undocumented immigrants" as our local paper, the Arizona Republic, sees fit to call it (wonder what they're afraid of)).

We passed proposition 200 here, sort of a "we know there are illegals here, lets at least try to stop them from sponging off us, since Bush and even our local "representatives" don't have the balls to just say "Don't bother coming in if you're not coming in legally". Now, the people speak, and our Attorney General Goddard tries to take away any teeth Proposition 200 might have had by saying they can vote, for now, without proving a damn thing.

Now I read that officials in the state of Yucatan have published the "guide for the Yucatecan migrant", telling them where best to cross, where to find water in the desert, how to avoid the most dangerous areas, migrant's rights if they do get caught, even how to apply to get into our schools.

This all reeks of the same crap in the Mexican Foreign Ministry that published the "Guide for the Mexican Migrant" back in December.

Sure, send 'em here, Mexico can wash their hands of helping them out of their government's wallets, but damn, they love the money that the immigrants send back into Mexico, somewhere around 15 BILLION dollars last year. Can we go to Mexico and steal from their government? Bet we'd be looking at a 5x5 cell real quick.

All this can go on cause the Mexican Government has big 'ol brass balls and apparently very little pride, and ours have little bitty pea balls. Hayworth, one of our representatives will "complain to the State Department". Of course the state department will ignore it all. The only ones trying to do their jobs are the Border Patrol, and they're swimming up a tidal wave trying to control our borders

Blame the immigrants? Why? Their government tells 'em to come over and tells 'em how and what to try to get for free when they come here, our government acts like Mexico's the 51st state and kisses their government's ass, state government won't do anything cause Big (and small) businesses around here loves it, Cheap Labor, big dollars on the bottom line, and we know state and federal government does love Big Business and THEIR dollars.

And we, the people, who have spoken with Proposition 200, have effectively been told to shut up and live with it. Typical nowadays, isn't it?

Hold it right there, partner

Gun control... Here in Arizona, it's like saying castration. People here are just passionate about their guns. I can understand it in a sense because hey, all the scum on the street have em, gotta protect yourself, right? Got a right to hunt, right? Constitution says "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed", right?

True true true. To a point. But let's look at it at the extremes that some of these people go. My problem is the extent of it all. Assault weapons for example.

If you're walking down the street, and a mugger or carjacker comes up, how many people have one of these to pull out to defend themselves? And do you really want anyone out there to have one? Can't a pistol do the job?

Hunting, if you use an assault weapon to hunt, there's sportsmanship for you, Blow the bejeezus out of a deer. Can't regular rifles do enough damage to him?

The second amendment, yeah yeah, talk about taking things out of context. I'm sure the founding fathers didn't think about these things being around or they might have put a couple caveats on it all. It starts with having people ready to defend their home and country, and the NRA turns it into a catch all that gives everyone the right to have enough firepower to take over a small country.

Don't give in, NRA, on any points, go for AH-64 Apaches too, they have guns, doesn't that count? Don't give up a thing, Bubba. Yeah we need you protecting us, you're my ideal militia. Big deal, there are 10 commandments, and they might possibly be in front of a courthouse, or any government building. Big damn deal. What are, the polititians a little scared cause most of then can't keep but one or two of em?

I could almost go along with it, except for four words that are on millions of government issued documents. "IN GOD WE TRUST". That's not religion? Or "do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth SO HELP ME (or is it YOU) GOD"

Selective aren't they?

OK folks, I can see keeping religion out of it all, cause we've seen what organized religions can do when they get self righteous (Crusades, WWIII, Osamabama, etc) and we have enough war mongers flitting around Washington, the Middle East, and the rest of the world. But a little bit of God in government, hey it couldn't hurt.

Anyway, they should all be wiping the sweat off their brows that God said he's done with genocide, cause damn, the world nowadays seems like it'd be ripe for it!

DUI

I like to have the occasional drink. Sometimes two, Sometimes more. But I can honestly say that I haven't been on the road drunk for at least half my life. And before that, even when I was a stupid kid in college, it only happened a couple of times, and even that was too much, looking back.

I was a lucky one. I never crashed my car. I never hurt myself

I never killed anybody.

Lucky...

How many on the road tonight will be under the influence. At least a suspension of the license for a while. People should have to suffer a little to maybe make them think about it the next time around. They should have to pay even for the first time. If you want to play the roulette wheel on the percentage of alcohol in your blood, the stakes should be high.

Before you have to know for the rest of your life, that because of you, a car full of kids, or a family is dead.

Some gambles should not be taken. Sometimes good, but....

We buy a lot of stuff with rebates. Rebates good. Lowering the price to the after-rebate cost would be better, but they're smart, how many people throw the box away, along with the bar code, or lose the receipt, either case the company wins cause snowballs in hell have a helluva lot better chance than you do.

Sometimes they 'test' you, and don't send the rebate. How many people forget they sent it in and again company 1, you nada.

Then you get the other side. We bought a HP printer with two rebates. One came through fine, the other, after the 8 weeks that they all picked as the best amount of time to make sure you don't remember what's going on, sent us a postcard saying we weren't getting it because we didn't buy it from an "approved" company.

Now this is like waving a red flag at a bull to my wife. She calls the rebate handler, New Age something or another, based right here in good old Arizona. They said "saary, you read the card, invalid company, no rebate for you. My wife asked what the 'approved' companies were, they said ...uhh.... ummm....

She asked where it was posted what companies you could buy from.... uhhhh... ummm...

She (as always prepared) had a copy of the form, the barcode, and the receipt, asked where on the rebate form it said what company was 'legal'

Ummm..uhhhh...

Asked to speak to a supervisor, since their person seemed to have an IQ deficiency, gave her a name and extension...

"I'm sorry, this person's not available, please leave a message"... so she did, with only the detail that my wife always has ready somehow (thank God, I can on a good day tell you where I was born, God supplies idiots like me with spouses with minds like a file cabinet, and file cabinets like an accountant's dream)

two days, two more calls, same story, but nobody calls back.

I do my job at this point, which is call, rant, rave, call them idiots, and by God I want a call before I hang up!!

She gets a call the next day from the woman, which pisses my wife off to no end, since she wasn't important enough to get a callback. The woman says "invalid company, bla bla bla, but because we don't want you mad, we'll send you a ream of paper" Lessee, rebate is 50 bucks, must be gold paper. Wife says 50 bucks, no paper, 50 bucks, thassit, you don't even know what the hell a valid company is!" Being reasonable -cough- and in the name of customer satisfaction --cough-- the woman agrees. In 8 weeks you'll have 50 US treasury kinda bucks.

8 weeks later, we get a card, same as the first, wrong company, no rebate for you. Wife ROYALLY pissed, calls the same woman for -three- days, no answer. I call, bla bla bla incompetant SOBS bla bla bla, and get a call the next day. Wife would give up the 50 bucks to see the whole damn company in handcuffs at this point, The woman says I don't know WHY they refused, she had it cleared to pay, she'll find out what's going on and call me back tomorrow.

Next day, no call, and my wife nods knowingly and gets ready to have Ashcroft (remember him?) and the supreme court go after this "company". I get a call at 9:00 THAT NIGHT cause the woman said she'd call. Wife isn't amused at her concienciousness(sp?). Woman says New Age Themselves will cut a check cause we've waited long enough. No 8 weeks for us, 7-10 days, by God!! That was about 1/15

Today we started the next round of calls to our favorite person at New Age, since 2/9 minus 1/15 seems like a wee bit more than 10 days. Called same woman, got same voice mail, this woman is one busy woman I guess, by God. Wife has other thoughts on her...

I see some calls to HP, the attorney General, and the BBB and anyone else that we can find on the net coming. Rebates can be a good thing, with the right company. With the wrong one, it's a guarantee that we'll never buy from anyone that uses this place to do rebates again. HP? Sarry, you have good product, but bad taste in who you deal with

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://phoenixbob.blogspot.com/2005/02/rebates-sometimes-good-but.html' title='Rebates... Some of em put body and soul into it, bouncing and making faces. Interesting to watch when you can't hear the music, looks like epilepsy reigns .

Then there are the diggers, the ones who forget that glass is transparent and go on a mining expedition in their noses.

I love watching people in cars talking to each other, hands flaying like getting an idea across with just their mouth is impossible. Italian? Jewish? I don't know. But they'd be naturals for sign language.

A few piss me off, too. Women who use the rearview to put on their makeup are one, either they do it while they drive, which will one day mess up their pretty little faces, or at a red light, which when they sit there on green with the mascara flowing will one day mess up their pretty little bumpers.

The ultimate, though, are the ones with cellphones. Don't mind the ones plugged into their ears, but the ones driving one handed with 10 percent of their concentration on the road should be able to be drawn, quartered, and barbecued. Martha's grandmothers liposuction MUST be real important and not able to wait 10 minutes till the cars in the garage. Or that business call for the big deal, yeah that should be taken care of on the corner of Baseline and Dobson road, best place to conduct a conference call.

There should be a Moron lane for these jerks, so they can do the demolition derby thing while leaving us out of it.

Being a good driver nowdays means cowering in a parking lot in fear of all the....others. Do they ever have it? Or is it the greed bug right from the start. Half the cases in the courts (no statistics, just what I figure) stem from lawyers giving hope to people that they can get rich if they sue. It's a crap shoot for them, sometimes they lose, but sometimes the wheel hits their number big, for 33 percent of the payola.

Would that woman have sued McDonalds cause she spilled hot coffee (duh) if there wasn't some eel of a lawyer behind her whispering sue...sue...sue?

You see ads on TV from lawyers that specialize in DUI down here. Green is green, right?

We live out here in the desert Southwest, and we bought our house in May, the start of the Ungodly hot-but-its-a-dry-heat <snort> season. We have desert landscape, meaning a yard full of gravel (this is good, I'm allergic to lawnmowing or any kind of labor) with a little patch of regular dirt in the back. All was good in the summer, we had dirt and gravel like it was meant to be. Winter came, along with it's shivering mid 60's temperatures, and green things started to grow. In the dirt, in the gravel, in the bricks. Damn blobs of green all over the place. This equals work! See allergy above!

Never mind... I'm not gonna say one's right and one's wrong, cause I'm no expert, and certainly my interests aren't exactly earth shatteringly amazingly interesting, pretty much boring, middle aged heading-toward-old interests.

Teens, well theirs I don't get mostly, I'm not supposed to mostly, I'm sure they're very good mostly.

College kids, I like a lot of them cause some are so idealistic....and some seem to be written in a drunken haze. Either way, I can relate to a point.

Then there's the rest of us, who survive in the workaday, Mommy/Daddy I want, goddam bills, I'll be damned if your mother's coming for a months visit, ahhhh life is good flipflop world. We just talk about daily crap cause that's what there is, nothing real exciting just talk about work and car and kids and spouses/relationships. Those are the ones I like, I have a short attention span, but I understand this stuff.

Then there are the specialty ones, the geek/travel/gay/buy/sell/political ones that look for a specific audience which I pretty much aren't, so I can't say a lot about em.

Probably 10 total which I really really care what they say. Probably 20 more that I check out when I can.

All you special 10, I'm sure you notice the golden aura around your computer showing you that you've met with favor... or have a hard drive ready to shit the bed. God is looking down ready to throw another 40 days and nights. Heaven is only filled with straight people. The country will crumble if we, the great American majority allow Mr and Mr or Mrs and Mrs households. The gays lost for the most part, and America sat and burped, fulfilled.

Some people need a hobby other than spewing bullcrap....

There was a time when "the great majority " wanted slavery and to squash women's rights too.

And by the way I very well doubt if it is the majority, it's the politicians who must either see money leaving their stuffed wallets, or the bible thumpers who think they talk for God, but unfortunately only speak from their puny little minds. Either way, they're both vocal... the rest of us, as usual, tsk tsk and shake our heads, then go get a cup of coffee.

And by the way, of ALL people, I don't want dubya telling me what God wants.

I don't see a damn thing wrong with it. Gays pay the same taxes as the rest of us, have all the liabilities and perks that being an American brings, they should have the same rights to marry a loved one, period. And don't spew what God wants to me, God's a big boy, he can take care of himself. Plus those that tell me what God wants are just pompous assholes anyway, what do they know about what God wants... It's the fastest growing town in America (hey I don't make this stuff up, it was in the paper, and we know THEY never screw up) and it should be the model for what a big town should be. We have over 150,000 people, but it feels like Mayberry RFD. People are genuinely nice here, we feel like we belong, kids are pleasant, even the teens, who usually go through a I'm-perfect, you're-crap phase. We have a town government that does things that IMPROVE the town (GASP). Is it perfect? Nope, not as long as they don't burn all those damn gas scooters and mini-bikes, but I want too much, I'm selfish, I'll live with it. Beats hell out of Phoenix, where gunshots are not an uncommon sound in places.

Gilbert town government, congrats. Gilbert residents I bow to you. How can we DO that!! Latino groups all up in arms and spitting blood, saying the poor illegals are having stress attacks and we're all a bunch of animals, and they're gonna fight to the death to make sure that there are no down sides to being illegal such as not getting free money, aid, etc etc! Bush has 4 more years max to screw up the country. Only thing is, there's a helluva lot of damage he can do in that four years. Another gazillion dollars to be spent on his own personal war games.... Social Security going straight down the shit tubes... and I don't care what Rice may say, when he gets bored with Iraq, Iran's gonna be another cash toilet. And what about that guy, what's his name.. er... ah yes , Bin Laden. Well, we'll hear from him again when he blows up a small town or something, right now I guess he's not as much fun as Toy soldiers in Iraq. I think anytime a president pushes a war down our throats, it should be mandatory that HIS kids get sent over there.
